The Michaels Organization recently unveiled renderings of the proposed development at 11 Crown Street, the former headquarters of the Meriden Record Journal.
Renderings of proposed development show a development with two phases including an apartment building facing the Meriden Green complimented by row-style homes bordering South Colony and Crown Streets. The design incorporates a nod to Meriden's industrial past while building new, state of the art homes that are timeless and consistent with Meriden's historic downtown.
In November, 2016, the Michaels Organization submitted a financing application to the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority. Financing award announcements are expected in the spring of 2017.
To prepare the site for development, the City was awarded $1.72 million in CT DECD brownfields funding which will be used to demolish the existing building, remediate soils, and grade the site. Demolition is expected to commence in January 2017.
